Getting used to the weather
Sasha and Malia play UNO during the campaign
President Barack Obama and his daughters Sasha and Malia were shocked when school was canceled in the Washington D.C. area yesterday. The President was speaking to reporters and business leaders yesterday when he interjected, "Can I make a comment that is unrelated to the economy, very quickly? My children's school was canceled today because of what, some ice?" He went on, "As my children pointed out, in Chicago, school is never canceled. In fact, my 7-year-old [Sasha] pointed out that you'd go outside for recess in weather like this. . . . You wouldn't even stay indoors."
In article about the President remarks the Los Angeles Times notes that, "A spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools said snow, ice or cold has not shut down the system since Jan. 4-5, 1999, when a storm dumped nearly 2 feet of snow on the city. The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, which the Obama girls attended, has closed only once in the last 30 years because of winter weather, said David Derbes, a longtime faculty member."
Welcome to the South, Mr. President, Sasha, Malia.

J has a cousin from Florida who was up here for the weekend, and she's like... "he fell," and I'm thinking, 'he's not that old...' but then she explains they don't have ice down in Florida to slip on. Ever. ythings relative - S.
S- It is pretty funny like that, right? You are what you know.
Here in North Carolina many native drivers are scary as heck when it snows, 'cause they never drive in it. Whereas my boy from Geneso, NY, near Buffalo and Rochester takes his Jetta out in the snow like it's a sleigh ride!

Funny s**t man. It's true though, driving on snow is not so scary! It just takes a little practice and after a while it becomes fun...not scary, but fun. I was actually impressed about the DPW for the job that they did in getting the roads cleared this last time. Although I was a little upset when I left the apartment later in the day and had no more snow to drive on...but yah missing school for a little bit of snow on the roads is crazy. They should just make them snow days so that the kids that never get to see it can go out and play in it while it lasts. If you never see snow as a kid why would you want to be in school at that time. I wish that I could have had more snow days growing up, but that was just where I came from. Life went on when it snowed and you just had to wait for your time to play in it. Snow in NC, yah it sucks for the parents and local business, but kids...have fun!
Don-
What a difference a year makes right? Bet Obama isn't mocking D.C.'s snow fall now. And here in Durham, there is plenty of winter weather for the kiddies to enjoy!

It sounds like you're creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place.
