Follow-up San Francisco network
Following up on the saga of network vulnerability from earlier in the week: the programmer who was holding systems control of the city of San Francisco's computer network under a single password gave the password to the mayor Gavin Newsom today in a jailhouse meeting. The mayor took the password to a team of Cisco Systems code crackers that had been trying to bypass the WAN network problems for the city. The city has regained at least partial control, though various reports say systems engineers have not yet regained control of the city's voice over Internet Protocol system and local area networks within the Sheriff's Department and the Recreation & Park Department.
