The Clarion Content is bringing back a column that has languished in 2012. After posting seven "What are they Watching" columns in 2011, this is only our third effort this year.
"What are they Watching" is our look at what the teens and tweens of America are watching. We peer into their world through the lens of You Tube. If you have not seem some of our earlier episodes, follow this link [and scroll down past this post].
Obviously Gagnam style, if you don't know they are watching Gangnam style, good for you. But seriously, click here1. On the other hand, this trio Swedish House Mafia, we can forgive you if you haven't heard or heard of them.

This week is a bit more teen rather than tween. It is not that the content is especially risque. This music was sent our way by a graduating senior who told us it is blowing up in high school, and it was reaffirmed as "kick butt" by a young twenty-something. However, we are not so sure Skrillex's talented paramour Ellie Goulding has made it into the middle school's yet... Give her her a listen below.

This week we present, video blogger Jenna Marbles. She is hot. And we are not talking about her looks, her You Tube channel has more than 2 million subscribers. Why not? She is hilarious. Below, her advice on how to stop guys from grinding on you in the club. Fyi...the language is salty and R-rated.

This Korean group, Girls Generation, has been making inroads into the American high school consciousness. Their Wiki says they are considered the top Korean Idol group, a category Americans might analogize to a boy band of a different gender. And while the music is clearly fluffy pop, record sales are blowing up and the VMA's are rolling in. Check'em out here...

What they are watching...Episode XVII

The kids they still love the physical comedy and the slapstick humor. The message is in the action, not some highfalutin reference or irony. Check out the satirization of country singer Kenny Rogers below doing "Jackass", the eighth graders who sent this video our way had no idea who Kenny Rogers was, nor had they ever seen him. They still found this video utterly hilarious.

The kids they love the Auto-tune, Christina Aguilera's opinion not withstanding. Likely, we are witnessing the first Auto-tune generation, people who do not remember before it was possible to bend pitch to the nearest true tone. What they are watching...Episode XII
Our look at what the teens and tweens of America are watching. You may have caught some of our earlier episodes, if not, follow this link and [scroll down]. This, our latest episode, is more than a little different.
The rumor circulating is that the YouTube hosted video was made by two teens who secretly recorded their friend. Which in light of the recent tragedy at Rutgers University, is a sketchy premise.
In this video, the friend was allegedly tripping on acid and sitting in a closet. His pals recorded his ramblings and wrote some animation to go with the spew. Intriguing and hard to characterize. Edgy. One has to wonder about the consent (even subsequent) of the party involved. Or whether it could have been staged.
Safe for work save for a couple of f-bombs.

In this case what they are watching is Shinee, which according to their Wikipedia entry is pronounced like shiny. They are, if this conglomeration of phrases can hold any collective meaning, a contemporary R&B South Korean boy band. Now you have got them pegged, right? Here is their latest single, "Lucifer."
